Stony Stratford was built on the famous Roman road, the Watling Street.
There are attractive river walks close by and there are also 4 beautiful churches of varying denominations in the town. The river Great Ouse flows around the Northern and Western perimeters of Stony Stratford. In fact, the name Stratford comes from the Roman name for ford crossings. Stony's position on this road means it has a great travelling tradition, including being visited by Royalty on several occasions in its past.
